CHESS

Play chess against the computer with a friendly coach

Skillwik chess lets you play the computer at six levels, ask for a hint when you are stuck, and review the game afterwards to see exactly where it turned. It runs in a Chrome popup and saves after every move.

Hints that teach

You start with 3 hints and earn 1 more for every 10 moves you play, up to 5. A hint draws the key move and says why: a piece is in danger, a capture is free, or a check leads somewhere. Hints are only for games against the computer.

Post-game review

The review analyses every move and labels it best, good, inaccuracy, mistake or blunder by how much of your winning chances it gave away. It shows the position before your move with the better move drawn as an arrow, and a short note from Arivu. The engine searches to a fixed depth, so treat it as a coach opinion rather than a final verdict.

Free players see the first mistake. Pro shows every mistake with an explanation.

Six levels

Beginner, Casual and Club are free. Strong, Expert and Master are part of Pro. The engine is Lozza, an open source chess engine that runs inside the extension, so it works offline.

Play a friend on one screen

Choose two players on one screen. Pass and play has no hints and no engine. Online friend rooms with chat are available in the latest version, free for now.

Frequently asked questions

How do hints work in Skillwik Chess?

You start each game against the computer with 3 hints. You earn 1 more for every 10 moves you play, and you can hold at most 5. A hint shows the best move on the board and explains the idea in plain words. Hints are off in two-player games.

What is the post-game review?

After a game ends, the engine goes through every move and marks it best, good, inaccuracy, mistake or blunder. It draws the better move on the board and Arivu explains what went wrong. Free players see the first mistake, Pro shows them all.

How strong is the computer?

There are six levels: Beginner, Casual, Club, Strong, Expert and Master. The first three are free. The engine is Lozza, an open source chess engine that runs inside the extension.

Can I play a friend on the same computer?

Yes. Chess and Tic-tac-toe have a pass and play mode for two people on one screen. Online friend rooms with spectators and chat are available in the latest version, free for now.
